Alcohol is a parent to domestic violence

Check your alcohol consumption

When domestic violence occurs, alcohol is very likely to be a factor. Many domestically violent people drink large amounts of alcohol.

Check and remember your early years in childhood. Did the person you looked up to and who was domestically violent, often drink large amounts of alcohol? Children learn most by example.

Slide 1

A person who is domestically violent is carrying their trainer's baggage.

Understand that the thought to be domestically violent wasn’t your idea. As a person grows and processes life, they learn from older more experienced people, who have power over them and their survival. Most often times their trainer is a parent(s).

As we process life’s wonders and dangers, we decide if the ideas taught us are beneficial or dangerous. When younger, your trainer forced his/her ideas upon you and, as an adult, you have to unlearn the dangerous ideas you learned and keep the beneficial ideas.

You are older now, and you can reject and put down the baggage of your trainer.

Slide 1

Domestic violence is a learned behavior.
BE A HERO. BREAK THE CYCLE.

Understand that the training to be domestically violent wasn’t your idea. The trainer forced you to learn how to be domestically violent. Instantly a child knows that this powerful adult that controls their food, clothing, shelter and sense of “acceptance” is a person to emulate.

Being a person who is domestically violent, is a heavy burden and is expensive causing loss of friendships, jobs, relationships, and respect.

Changing your Behavior from "one who has caused harm" to a Hero who enjoys rewarding and fulfilling relationships is not easy, but it is worth the effort.

Slide 1

Who was your trainer?

Breaking the cycle of being domestically violent is not easy. When trying to “Break the Cycle”, it is important to identify who was your trainer?

We are not talking about in a classroom, text book, teacher type of training. Generally, people who are domestically violent have witnessed or experienced domestic violence themselves at an early age. Their trauma was with someone who had significant control over them, and sent the message “this is how adults behave”. The child sees, hears and feels as though, when someone doesn’t do what you want them to do, you can become violent.
